Zenith Bank Female Basketball League: Dolphins Extend Lead, Set League Record
FIBA Africa Zone 3 champions, Dolphins Basketball Club, on Sunday continued their good run in this season’s Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League after defeating Delta Force 79-48 in one of the Group B matches played at the Ilorin Township Stadium.
The Dolphin ladies, who finished as runners-up of the league last season, had also defeated Zamfara Babes 127-33 on Friday to set a new points record in the league.
The trio of national team invitees, Juliet Currency, Amaka Nwakamma and Tokunbo Olaosebikan, continued their good form this year as they combined to outshine their opponents.
Dolphins are now unbeaten in 12 games this season and have accumulated maximum 24 points to top Group B from the first phase of the league in Abuja.
Meanwhile, Benue Princesses and Plateau Rocks are looking for a place in the final eight playoffs. Princesses, who have managed only two wins from five games so far, beat Oluyole Babes 52-44 to tie with the Rocks, who defeated Taraba Hurricanes 48-19, in 5th position in Group A.
Princesses will play AHIP Queens while Rocks will face Sunshine Angels in their next matches. Defending champions, First Bank, still lead the group while erstwhile champions First Deepwater trail them.
