NFF To Fine Onazi For Getting Red-Carded Against Chad

Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is to be slapped a hefty fine by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after he was sent off in Saturday’s AFCON qualifier against Chad.

Nigeria won 2-0 but the home team had to play the last 12 minutes a man short after Lazio star Onazi was sent off for an off-the-ball incident.

“Onazi is to be fined heavily so as to serve . It was pure and simple an act of indiscipline by the player and he will not go unpunished,” an official informed AfricanFootball.

The midfielder has apologised for his dismissal.

"I let my team mates and our loyal fans down with my action on the pitch (vs Chad). I apologise for my actions. Thank you for your usual support,” he wrote on Twitter.

"Nothing else matter to me at this point than my personal joy and conviction, that of my friends, family and fans and my well wishers.

"I don't ever feel like I have the right to refuse the criticism of the same people who praise me even when I don't deserve it. Thank you all for your support and praises, even when I don't deserve them."
