Nigeria senior national Basketball team, D'Tigers proved on Monday night
in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso that it's a force to reckon with when it come to
Africa basketball when it humbled host Burkina Faso by 87-64 points in the
first leg of the 29th Afrobasket and 11th All Africa Games.
The Nigerian side made up largely of home-based players won
three of the four quarters (22-19, 24-09, 19-23 and 22-13) to make the return
leg billed for March 25 more difficult for the Burkinabe.
The Coach Sani Ahmed tutored side was led in scoring by
reigning most valuable player in the Nigerian league Abubakar Usman who poured
in 19 points, 5 rebound gave 3 assists and completed the night with two steal;
foreign based Nigerian forward Ejike Ugboaja had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2
steal; former Dodan Warriors shooting sensation and captain Azuoma Dike added
12 points and 2 rebound while the duo of Ibrahim Yusuf and Abdulwahab Yahaya
contributed 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steal and 10 points, 7 rebound
and 2 assist each.
