Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri has progressed into the round of 32 at the ongoing International Table Tennis Federation World Tour in Zagrab, Croatia after defeating France’s Alexandre Cassin 4-0 on Thursday.
The 26-year-old, who suffered a shock exit in the first round of the ITTF World Championships in China last month, defeated the youngster 11-6, 11-5, 11-7, 11-8 on Table 9.
Quadri, who was the number five seed in the singles, will meet another French man, Flore Tristan, in the round of 32 of the $35, 000 prize money tournament.
In the men’s doubles, Quadri partnered Portugal’s Andre Silva to defeat Bulgaria’s Denislav Kodjabashev and Petyo Krastev 3-2 also on Thursday.
The duo battled to a 11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-8 win to secure their place in the quarterfinal.
They will take on Poland’s Jakub Dyjas and Konrad Kulpa in one of the quarterfinal matches of the championship.
Meanwhile, the second African player in the championship, Togo’s Mawussi Agbetoglo, has been shown the exit door in the preliminary round of the men’s singles on Thursday.
