The quartet of Regina Ilonumbe of First Bank basketball team, Christiana Isaac of IGP Queens, Juliet Currency of Dolphins and Morocco-based Grace Okonkwo has been excluded from D’Tigress squad that will face Ivory Coast in the Zone 3 qualifiers for the FIBA Africa Championship for Women holding from June 4 to 5 in Abidjan.
Nigeria are seeking their 10th appearance at the continental tournament, which will hold in Cameroon from September 24 to October 3, while Ivory Coast are trying to book their 12th appearance.
The competition will also serve as qualifiers for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The coaching crew, headed by Scott Nnaji, has included Helen Ogunjimi, Sarah Ogoke, Upe Atosu, Nkechi Akashili, Ndidi Madu and Chioma Udeaja – six of the players that featured at the last continental showpiece in Mozambique in 2013.
If Nigeria qualify, they will face champions Angola, Senegal, Algeria and two other teams – one from Zone 2 and another team that will be awarded a wild card.
The team are expected to depart for Abidjan on Tuesday ahead of their first game on Thursday at the Palais des Sports Treichville.
