A first half penalty strike from Ebere Ngozi ensured that
Rivers Angels defeated Confluence Queens 1-0 in an exhibition match played at
the FIFA Goal Project Technical Centre in Abuja on Tuesday.
The exhibition match saw a much improved Confluence Queens team
against Rivers Angels, although experience counted at the end of the match
duration.
Ijeoma Obi rattled the woodwork, before lanky striker Ijeoma
Emenike blazed over on 4 minutes.
Henry Grace then dribbled her way past Confluence Queens
defense line, but she was denied by the sharp reflexes of Oluwaseun Bello.
Former Rivers Angels striker Lola Philips combined well with
Damilola Koku to force Charity John to a save in the 11th minute.
Rivers Angels were soon in front when Ijeoma Emenike
wriggled free before she was brought down by Tosin Emmanuel.
Ebere Ngozi easily dispatched the spot-kick on 14th minute
for the star-studded Rivers Angels team.
Confluence Queens upped their game, with Captain Tobiloba
Olarewaju, Rosemary Okoro and Carine Yoh going close with their efforts.
The second half started much livelier and Oluwaseun Bello
was called to duty in the early parts.
Rivers Angels goalie Charity John produced a diving save to
deny Lola Philips mid-way through the second half.
Confluence Queens' technical crew threw on exciting forward
Aishat Bello in search of an equalizer and the golden chance arrived two
minutes from time when the skillful youngster dribbled her way to the box, but
she fired a tame shot straight at Charity John.
Rivers Angels and Pelican Stars were supposed to have played
a champion of champions challenge to determine the winners of the 2013/14
Nigeria Women Premier League season, but the Calabar based team pulled out of
the match.
